May 2013 Commencement

CAPS AND GOWNS
A large number of caps and gowns in various sizes will be available for purchase. Undergraduate and master degree candidates do not need to place a special order for their cap and gown.  For the Class of 2013, caps and gowns will be available for sale online beginning on May 3 and ending on May 13. In-store purchases at our Campus Center store may be made from May 6-18. Prior to May 6, the first opportunity to purchase your cap and gown will be at our annual Grad Finale on Tuesday, April 16.

COMMENCEMENT ATTIRE
Academic regalia is an integral part of the graduation ceremony. The different colors and style all denote the achievements of the wearers. These traditions date back to the middle ages. Since graduation is the most important of SUNY Oswego's academic ceremonies, it is vital that all candidates for graduation are appropriately attired.

COMMENCEMENT DRESS
Commencement is a time for family, friends, faculty and staff to take pride in graduates' accomplishments and congratulate them on a job well done. The ceremony symbolizes the culmination of many years of hard work. Wearing the traditional academic gown and mortar board is required for participation in Commencement. The appropriate attire to wear with a cap and gown is a dress, skirt or slacks, and dark shoes. We ask your help in making the ceremony a pleasant experience for all by taking into consideration adornments such as corsages, jewelry and purses detract from the formality of the ceremony. Also a reminder - campus policy prohibits alcohol at commencement.

CLASS RINGS
We will have numerous opportunities during the Spring 2013 semester for you to browse or purchase your class ring. A representative from Jostens will visit our store, giving you a chance to browse, ask questions, and order your class ring. 

COMMENCEMENT DAY FLOWERS
The College Stores has partnered with CommencementFlowers.com. Commencement Flowers will provide flowers on Commencement Day. They have been providing students in hundreds of schools across North America with vibrant, high quality, fresh-cut flowers for their graduations for 10 years. Pre-order online and your flowers will be ready for pickup at the Campus Center on Commencement Day.

GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
The College Store orders announcements through Jostens. Graduation announcements can be personalized with the student's name and degree incorporated into the body of the announcement text. Jostens offers graduation packages including announcements, note cards, seals, labels, etc. All personalized announcements will be shipped directly to the student. Please allow at least 2 weeks for delivery. A home address is required for shipping. All orders will be shipped by UPS (please note UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. Box, so please order with a street address).
