Opening Week marks the official kickoff of each new academic year at SUNY
Oswego. During Opening Week some students will arrive to campus for the first
time while others will be returning after a summer filled with work and
learning experiences. Opening Week's activities provide students with a
transitional time so that they can become comfortable with the campus and
community prior to the beginning of classes.
This event begins the day new students arrive to campus and move into
their residence halls each Fall semester. It also provides new commuters
and transfers with a time to meet. Some of the highlights of Opening Week
include a chance to meet your academic advisor along with the campus community
coming together for a picnic. Opening Week is also the time that students are
formally welcomed into their new academic lives at the Annual Torchlight
Ceremony where the torch of knowledge is shared with the new students of SUNY
Oswego.
Opening Week is a time to meet your roommate get to know other commuters and
share experiences as new students who are then meeting returning students.
During this weekend there are many activities and events planned to assist new
students in becoming part of the SUNY Oswego community. Opening Weekend events
will give students a chance to socialize and meet each other along with a time
to learn about SUNY Oswego and the surrounding community before they begin
their new academic careers. Special thanks to Auxiliary Services for issuing
Opening Week's grant. Without their involvement and active support, this event
could not happen.
