Our Mission

The mission of the Department of Residence Life and Housing is to advance the College's mission through the creation of a safe, well-maintained and technologically current residential environment that actively engages residents in community and personal development, intellectual exploration and achievement, and social maturity and responsibility.

Program Goals

  • Promote the holistic growth and development of students, utilizing a six-dimension wellness model: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational.
  • Teach students respect, responsibility for themselves and as members of the community, altruism, ethics and leadership.
  • Create environments in which students value diversity of ethnicity, thought, culture and lifestyle.
  • Expose students to and encourage their participation in service to the campus and community at large.
  • Provide learning experiences which assist students in adapting skills to their future lives of work and leisure.

Administrative Goals

  • Develop, maintain and refine management functions including planning, personnel, property manage ment, purchasing, contract administration, budgeting, financial control and information systems.
  • Develop and disseminate policies and procedures explaining duties of residents and staff for building safety, security and physical condition.
  • Achieve adequate and appropriate departmental staffing to accomplish mission, goals and objectives including recruitment, selection, training, compensation and professional development.
  • Conduct regularly systematic qualitative and quantitative assessment of the departmental progress toward meeting its goals through the use of nationally normed surveys, focus groups and other means as appropriate and available.
  • Maintain high quality residential facilities through ongoing facility inspection, customer service, capital improvement planning and equipment enhancements.
