Why do I have to pay a membership fee to use the Fitness Center?
The Fitness Centers are non-profit facilities, run primarily from the income derived from membership fees. We are aware that many other colleges and universities provide "free" use of their facilities. However, it is important to remember that at these other colleges, students are paying for fitness center operational costs somewhere in the tuition and fees. At SUNY Oswego, this is an optional expense, especially for those who either do not want to use the fitness center or belong to an outside facility. Every effort is made to provide the highest quality of service while keeping the memberships affordable for the student body.

I have an idea for the Fitness Centers, who do I talk to?
We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions. If you have a suggestion, feel free to leave a comment at our desk staff or e-mail us at fitness@oswego.edu.  There also is a Fitness Center Advisory board that discusses these issues every month during the academic year. We are always looking for student membership for advisory board so please contact us if you are interested.

So I have a membership, but I have no idea what I am doing?
We understand that this is the first time that many of you have used a Fitness Center. Please look over the the policies to learn about some general information. The Fitness Center staff is available to answer general questions and provide basic instruction on equipment use. Personal Trainers are also available to provide further instruction on safe and effective exercise programs.

I signed up for a personal trainer and I have not been contacted yet, what gives?
Our personal training program is quite popular and we have limited numbers of personal trainers and resources. We are on a first come, first serve basis, so please be patient. If you have further questions, please contact the personal training office at 312-6001.

All the treadmills are taken, what should I do?
Please understand we have limited space for cardio equipment. Some suggestions include trying different pieces of equipment, come during less crowded times or try one of our  30+ group exercise classes a week.
