Health Center Quality Improvement Program

The Health Center conducts an on-going Quality Improvement Program. One component of the quality control program is to seek feedback from students regarding the services and programs provided by the medical staff. You are encourage to complete the anonymous "Patient Feedback Form", provided at the MWHC, and submit it to the designated box in the lobby. Also, your cooperation is appreciated in completing the "Patient Satisfaction Survey" which is periodically administered when visiting the Health Center.

Health Education and Promotion
The Center is not just for when you are sick. Wellness promotion and education are two of the medical staff's high priorities. Whether you are ill or healthy, you are encouraged to visit or to call the Walker Health Center (312-4100) with concerns and questions. Each health care practitioner is willing and able to provide you with one-on-one educational information which will facilitate your goal of leading a healthy lifestyle. Printed educational brochures are available from the staff and in the lobby of MWHC.

In addition to one-on-one health counseling by the clinicians, the Health Center employs a health educator. The health educator is affiliated with the College's LifeStyles Center located in Walker Health Center. The medical staff shares and supports the mission of The LifeStyles Center

"to develop and implement a comprehensive and proactive program that works toward providing a campus environment which promotes low-risk choices for students and reflects the attitudes, behaviors and values of healthy lifestyles."

The major goal of The LifeStyles Center is to promote an environment that encourages healthy decisions and positive lifestyles. The four components of the Center are: alcohol and other drugs (AOD), sexuality, nutrition and body image, and violence prevention.

The LifeStyles Center provides highly visible and creative educational and prevention programs during classroom presentations, in residence halls and by in-service workshops for students and faculty / staff. Some of the topics covered include alcohol and other drugs, HIV / AIDS / STDS, body image, self-esteem, nutrition, eating disorders, date / acquaintance rape and homophobia.

The professional staff of the LifeStyles Center recruit, train and supervise a cadre of students who serve as peer educators. Peer educators facilitate programs which positively affect their peers and themselves. For more information regarding the peer education program, call the LifeStyles Center at 315-312-5648.
