Alcohol And Other Drugs
College is definitely a time for decisions; "What should be my major? Where
should I live? What am I going to do when I finish school?"All are important
questions because our choices affect our lives in significant ways. Then there's
the question of alcohol and other drugs. Perhaps you, or others around you,
have yet to really question the role alcohol and other drugs play in your lives
day to day, weekend to weekend. If you live in a "normal" college environment,
you are constantly given the opportunity to decide how alcohol and other drugs
play into your personal and social life, keeping in mind that your choices
affect your academics, your relationships and your health. Also see Alcohol
and Drug Prevention Programs.
General Wellness
"The Freshman Fifteen", diets and weight loss, sleep deprevation
and stress are some of the "hot topics" among today's college students.
Although most students are aware of the importance of good health, there is an
overwhelming amount of information, much of it misleading, bombarding us daily.
Peer Educators are here to help students better understand the basics of
wellness.
Peer Theatre
Peer Theater Programs are a lot of fun and provide the involved students a
chance to make a difference on this campus. Peer Theatre gives students an
opportunity to grow and learn more about themselves, these issues and promoting
responsible health choices among their peers.
Sexual Health
The word "sexuality" elicits many different meanings and covers a variety of
topics. Whether we believe it or not, all students (and the entire campus
community) deal with many sexual health issues such as: disease, unplanned or
unwanted pregnancy, sexual assault, discrimination, caring and intimacy and
sexual ethics, all of which the sexual health component addresses. The sexual
health education program has made it a priority to provide informational and
educational services on a wide variety of sexual health topics, using the most
up-to-date and accurate information available.
Violence Prevention
Each of us, as college students, come into contact with violence at some
point. Maybe it's the two guys who had too much to drink at a party, best
friends one moment and then the next, they're "duking it out." Or maybe it was
the woman you heard about last semester in your building who was in an abusive
relationship. Maybe your best friend got really drunk the night her grandmother
died and took some pills and you had to take her to the hospital. Whether
directly or indirectly, violence on college campuses impacts us all. Violence
Prevention Peer Educators at the LifeStyles Center work to promote awareness
about the complex and very difficult violence-related issues students face.
