SUNY Oswego offers support services, activities and programs that promote
health, wellness and fitness to meet the dynamic needs of our students, faculty
and staff.
Physical and Mental Health
Available resources for medical and health issues include trained physicians,
nurse practitioners and physician assistants housed in Walker Health Center. The Counseling Services
Center, also in Walker, offers trained counselors for students who need
attention.
Wellness and Education
Healthy choices are an integral part of the college experience. A large number
of wellness education programs throughout the year offer an extensive look at
the importance of healthy lifestyles. Located in Walker, the LifeStyles Center provides
education, awareness and support in areas
that include general wellness, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and
violence prevention.
Physical Fitness
All members of our college community may subscribe to a membership at our two
resident
fitness centers. We also offer an extensive intramural program that
boasts over 4,000 participants each year in a wide selection of sport leagues
and tournaments. Additionally, students can join one of Oswego’s many
club sports to remain physically active within their busy schedules.
Student Involvement
Students are very involved in administering health and wellness programs on
campus. They serve as peer
educators to help their classmates make healthy choices. Student
organizations like SAVAC, the first student-run ambulance
corps in the country, and the college's new Red Cross club actively work to
promote campus wellness.
