The college enrolls more than 8,000 students including around
6,600 full-time undergraduates. Approximately 3,850 students live
on-campus in 12 residence halls.

What kind of clubs and
organizations are available for me to get involved in?
SUNY Oswego offers more than 150 clubs and organizations each year
that span a wide range of categories including academic, media and
publications, club sports, religious, cultural, special interest, Greek life,

Is there a student
government?
The Student
Association is SUNY Oswego’s student government. The government consists of
legislative, judicial, and executive branches. The Student Association receives
its funding from a student activities fee that is managed and redistributed to
student clubs and organizations. Senators representing each of 12 residence halls vote on financial
appropriations from the Student Association.

What is there to do on-campus
during the weekend?
Student clubs and
organizations often host a variety of events during the weekend hours in
the Hewitt Union and Campus Center. Some traditional weekly events include The
Shaun Cassidy Fan Club Improv Comedy Troupe in
the OZone, and three screenings of relatively new releases in the Campus Center auditorium sponsored by the Student
Association Programming Board (SAPB).

How far is it to Syracuse?
Syracuse is approximately 40 miles south of campus. Centro buses
travel regularly to Syracuse’s transportation center. Need a

Can I have a car on campus? Where
can I park?
All students are permitted to have cars. Parking regulations are revised from
year to year. Inquiries should be directed to the University Police
Parking Division.

Is there a bus service for on-
and off-campus?
Buses circle the campus as well as travel to and from downtown. Buses to Syracuse and other areas are also available.

What are the residential
facilities like?
SUNY Oswego accommodates 12 residence halls, many offering different
experiences meeting particular student interests. Each residence hall sits
close to a dining center, and offers various services and
amenities. More detailed information may be obtained from Residence Life and
Housing and/or each individual hall.

What appliances are allowed in
residence halls?
All electrical appliances must be UL approved and must be in good
working order. Compact refrigerators must conform to proper electrical and
chemical standards, operate on no more than 2.5 amps, have a capacity not
exceeding 5 cubic feet, and have maximum outside dimensions not exceeding 48
inches. One refrigerator is allowed per residence room. Appliances with exposed
heating units and/or are used for cooking foods (except hotpots, popcorn
poppers and coffeepots, which are acceptable) contained in an enclosed unit are
not permitted. All other appliances must be approved at the residence
director's discretion. Space heaters and baseboard units of any type, except
when provided by the College, are prohibited.

Am I allowed to have pets in my
residence hall?
In order to have pets in the residence halls, you must first read and agree to
the terms outlined in the housing pet policy. The following pets are permitted
in residence hall rooms: hamsters, gerbils, domestically bred rats, small caged
birds, fish (in aquariums no more than 20 gallons), small lobsters (not to
exceed six inches in length), turtles (not to exceed nine inches in length),
chameleons (not to exceed six inches in length), hermit and soapdish crabs (in
a tank not to exceed 20 gallons), and guinea pigs.

Do I need to bring my own
computer?
Although personal computers are permitted on campus, there also are several public computer
labs, as well as labs maintained by individual academic departments,
available for student use supporting both Window and Macintosh platforms. Some
facilities also support Sun-Ray systems.

How do I know if my computer
will be able to connect to the campus network?
Personal computers must meet minimum system
requirements as determined by network services.

As a freshman, do I have to
live with other freshmen?
Most residence halls at SUNY Oswego incorporate all class levels.
However, you may choose the
first-year experience in the newly renovated
Johnson Hall, which is exclusively for freshman. A professor and resident
mentors provide extra support in a number of areas.

What are campus dining centers
like? Where are they located?
There are four resident dining halls on the SUNY Oswego campus, each serving
hot foods, cold foods, a salad bar, a sub bar, and a dessert tray. Freshmen are
required to have a full-board meal plan that provides unlimited meals
throughout each semester. Other students may choose from alternative meal
options. There is one dining center located on Lakeside Campus, one dining
center on Central Campus, and two dining centers on New Campus.

Are there fitness centers I may
join? Where are they located?
There are two fitness
centers available to the campus community. One fitness center membership is
valid at both Glimmerglass (New Campus) and Cooper (Central Campus) locations.
Memberships may be purchased by semester or by academic year. Learn more details about facilities and membership

Housing at 312.2246. A separate fitness center facility is available to
intercollegiate athletes.

Are there jobs available on
campus?
Many jobs exist on campus, both in work-study programs (as part of a
financial package) and temp service positions open to all studens. For more
