Welcome to the SUNY Oswego Office of Legal Aid

What is the Office of Legal Aid?
The Office of Legal Aid is a Student Association funded service designed to provide SUNY Oswego students with free legal consultation. The office is staffed by an attorney who visits the office twice per week and by interns who provide office hours for contact information.

Who is Eligible?
All full-time SUNY Oswego students are eligible for the services provided by the office. Any other students who have paid their Student Association fee are also eligible.

What Services Are Provided?
The Office of Legal Aid provides advice to students concerny any legal problems that a student my encounter on or off campus. Common problems for which students seek advice are: criminal charges, vehicle and traffic charges, small claims court suits, landlord-tenant issues, and administrative disciplinary hearings.
The staff attorney is available for consultation two times a week. While court representation is NOT provided, students often chose to retain the staff attorney to assist them in court proceedings.

How To Use The Office...
The Office of Legal Aid is located in the Student Association Complex on the second floor of the Hewitt Union. The phone number is 312-3601. However, if you have a legal problem and would like advice we encourage visiting the office. No appointments are necessary. Any advice you recieve will come from the attorney, who will also determine the scope of assistance the office can provide.



The Office of Legal Aid is operated in accordance with all laws and rules concerning the practice of law in New York State, including the Code of Professional Responsibility. All communications between the program and its clients are kept completely confidential. The attorney retains the right not to accept cases which involve potential violations of the Code of Professional Responsibility.
