Oswego State Mens Club Hockey News
The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team split a pair of games last weekend at the Campus Center Arena.
The
Lakers hosted the Syracuse University Orangemen and hoped to avenge an
earlier season loss. Oswego fell behind early in the first period
4-1. They never gave up and scored the only goal in the 2nd period and
each team scored in the third, to lose 5-3. Chris Cavanaugh, Chris
Timmons and TJ Goodwin scored for Oswego, TJ's goal being his first
collegiate goal. Assists were credited to Adam Webster, Chris Covel,
Nick Phelps and Justin S mith. Goaltender Aaron Frohm had 53
saves. He also played in his last game for this season as he is
spending this semester abroad in Australia.
The following night
the Canisius College Griffins traveled to Oswego for a non- league
game. The large and loud home crowd saw a great game as the play
was up and down the ice as the teams traded goals during the first 2
periods. Once again Oswego fell behind early but never gave up as they
defeated Canisius 7-6. Justin Smith, Chris Covel, DJ Mazzoni, Chris
Cavanaugh, Mike Renick and Chris Flynn scored the Laker goals.
Assisting were Chris Timmons, Mazzoni, Chris Macrae, Bobby Drexler, Tom
Rahill and Webster. Sophomore goaltender Sal Annunziata was credited
with the win, his 7th of the season.
The Lakers travel to St.
Bonaventure and Mercyhurst this weekend. The game against Mercyhurst,
while not being an NECHL league game, will have special meaning as the
teams will be playing for the "Laker Trophy". Both teams are Lakers and
2 years ago decided to play for the trophy, which is a ship's
wheel. Oswego hopes to bring the trophy back with them on
Saturday.
Oswego is a D1 ACHA team and a member of the NECHL
along with Binghamton, Rutgers, Cornell, Cortland, Ithaca, St.
Bonaventure and Syracuse. Next year Niagar, RIT and Buffalo will be
joining the league. The Lakers are sponsored by the Student
Assocciation of Oswego State University, Tavern on the Lock Restaurant,
Uniforms, Etc., Best Damn T-Shirts, Clean Check Hockey and battle Axe
Hockey.
