SUNY Oswego's founder to come alive in word and song

The travails and triumphs of Edward Austin Sheldon, who founded what is now known as SUNY Oswego, will come to life when a famous alumna and four students present excerpts of his autobiography, letters and favorite music in “Speaking of Sheldon …” on Feb. 25 and 26.

SUNY Oswego recognizing 150th anniversary

The SUNY board of trustees passed a resolution Sept. 20 recognizing SUNY Oswego’s 150th anniversary, one of many markers celebrating the college’s sesquicentennial.

In 1861, Edward Austin Sheldon founded a teacher training school on the shores of Lake Ontario that would eventually become SUNY Oswego. In 2011, SUNY Oswego celebrates its sesquicentennial.
