RSVP to orient prospective volunteers March 19 in Oswego
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, will hold a volunteer orientation for retired or semi-retired adults at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Oswego Public Library’s community room.
Guest speaker Jessica Galvin, the library’s technology instructor, will join RSVP staff members Ellen Wahl and Tracie Wallace for the session at the library, 120 E. Second St.
Oswego Public Library is one of more than 100 partnering agencies and programs with whom RSVP collaborates to encourage and foster the development and maintenance of volunteer opportunities that engage, support and enhance the lives of Americans ages 55 and older, while responding to priority needs of the community.
This session is aimed at anyone who is retired or considering retirement and wondering, “What is there to do?” or who feels that they want to give back, but don’t know where to turn. In addition to recruiting, placing and supporting volunteers, RSVP offers Mature Living, a bimonthly newsletter with news and information that is national and local in scope and of interest to older Americans.
Nationally, RSVP reached its 40th anniversary milestone this year. The organization is part of a nationwide network of Senior Corps programs, sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Each of the more than 700 programs in the United States is sponsored by a non-profit agency; in Oswego County, SUNY Oswego and the United Way sponsor RSVP.
The next scheduled orientation will take place Tuesday, April 9, in Phoenix. To sign up for an orientation session and/or to receive Mature Living, call the RSVP office at 312-2317 or email email@example.com.
