A pair of open houses on Oct. 28 and 29 will welcome the public to a recent renaissance for some of the most popular spaces in SUNY Oswego’s renovated arts building, Tyler Hall.

A campus open house from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, will feature tours of the renovated spaces, musical performances, refreshments and more. Those providing mini-concerts will include the Oswego Jazz Project; a faculty showcase featuring the works of Mozart, Handel and Schubert; a student showcase of solo and chamber works; and a faculty-alumni musical showcase featuring a work specially commissioned for the occasion by 2007 graduate Nick Gianopolous, a Los Angeles-based composer.

A family-oriented community open house, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, will feature kid-friendly activities such as face painting, refreshments, tours and other surprises. Performers are slated to include the State Singers and Oswego County Youth Orchestra. Many aspects of the community open house will tie into the college’s production of “The Wizard of Oz,” which will have its final performances on the open house dates—at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and 3 p.m. Oct. 29. For “Oz” tickets, visit tickets.oswego.edu, any SUNY Oswego box office or call 315-312-2141.

“Tyler Hall Take Two Debut,” SUNY Oswego’s festive week of marquee events and open houses welcomes the community, alumni and all of campus to the college’s renovated home for the fine and performing arts, as well as highlighting all that the School of Communication, Media and the Arts has to offer.

Renovated spaces on the tours will include Waterman Theatre, a soaring new instrumental rehearsal room, a new choral rehearsal room, a state-of-the-art recording studio and modernized Tyler Art Gallery—displaying its “Restart” juried exhibition.

A two-year, $22.2 million first phase of 48-year-old Tyler Hall’s rejuvenation also has produced a sweeping new lobby with a curved-glass theater façade and a running start on the $18 million remainder of the project, already under way through 2018.
