String trio to open chamber music series

“An Evening of String Trios” will open SUNY Oswego’s Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

With Jonathan Shallit of Oswego’s music department on violin joined by Linda Kirkwood on viola and James Kirkwood on cello, the evening will feature modern and classical compositions. The Kirkwoods are educators who comprise half of the Tremont String Quartet at SUNY Geneseo.

The trio will perform pieces from the likes of Ludwig van Beethoven, Luigi Boccherini and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari.

A pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. will preview the performance and provide background on the players and composers featured.

Tickets cost $15 ($10 for seniors and children, $5 for SUNY Oswego students) and are available through Tyler box office at 312-2141 or http://tickets.oswego.edu. Discounts are available to those who purchase passes for the whole Ke-Nekt season.
