Yang-Shin-Yang Trio to launch music season
The season’s inaugural show also represents a farewell performance for violinist Seung hee Yang, who is leaving her position with the SUNY Oswego faculty to become the concertmistress for the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra in her native Korea. Pianist Wei Yi Yang and cellist Pitnarry Shin round out the piano trio.
The program will include a Beethoven violin sonata, a Prokofiev cello sonata and a Schumann trio.
Before performing and teaching at SUNY Oswego, Seung hee Yang served as a featured recitalist and soloist of CIS Collegium Musicum String Orchestra of Mozarteum in performances across Europe. The Seoul native has experience as a concertmistress, principal violinist and orchestra member for such entities as the Seoul Music Academy, Collegium Musicum of Seoul National University, Salzburg Kammerphillharmonie and Princeton Pro Musica. The winner of both the Dong-A music competition in Korea and the Rutgers Concerto Competition has performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall.
Wei Yi Yang, an associate professor at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music, recently recorded for National Public Radio and the Renegade Classics label. His performances have been heard through the Australia Broadcasting Corp., Minnesota Public Radio, Central New York’s WCNY and WFMT-Illinois’ “Live From Studio One” series. Yang has earned top prizes at the Manhattan Concerto Competition, the FiveTownArts Foundation Competition in New York and the San Jose International Piano Competition. He has played venues ranging from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow and the Great Hall in Leeds, England.
Shin is an active soloist, recitalist and chamber musician performing throughout the United States, Europe and her native Korea. A member of the Minnesota Orchestra, she has served as co-principal cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra, was acting principal of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and toured as a solo cellist with the Mark Morris Dance Company. The Fulbright scholar has collaborated with Yo Yo Ma on the Silk Road Project, a program of contemporary chamber music works, as well as playing the American premiere of Paul McCartney’s “A Garland for Linda” production for National Public Radio.
A grant from the Rosamond Gifford Foundation supports this year’s Ke-Nekt series. WCNY Classic FM provides media support.
