Citizens Academy to share topics about sustainable communities
SUNY Oswego will offer a Citizens Academy on Sustainability on Saturdays, Nov. 6 through Dec. 18, to inform community members about the elements of a healthy and sustainable society.
The discussion-style academy will meet 10:30 a.m. to noon each Saturday at Oswego State Downtown, corner of West First and Bridge streets. The cost for the program is $10, which includes materials.
“SUNY Oswego is committed to supporting community-based sustainability programming, so the entire program fee is just $10,” said Thad Mantaro, assistant director of the college’s Office of Business and Community Relations. “This is a great way to interact with other interested community members.”
Valerie Dawnstar, a SUNY Oswego alumna and previous Citizens Academy graduate, will lead the discussions. Weekly topics will include ecological principles, sustainable food, responsible buying, water and energy efficiency and sustainable communities.
“Community members continue to request information to help them green their lives,” Mantaro said, “and we believe this program provides a unique way to learn more.”
Those who complete the program will receive a certificate of participation, and information on how to become engaged with local sustainability activities.
To register, call the Office of Business and Community Relations at 315-312-3492 or e-mail email@example.com.
