Constellation supports Fall Classic
Constellation Energy has again pledged its support as a major sponsor of the Oswego State Fall Classic. The 15th annual Fall Classic will take place Sept. 9 and 10 on campus and in the community.
Constellation joins other Presidential Sponsors, including Sithe, GE Energy and the New York State Laborers’ Employers’ Cooperation and Education Trust Fund, in supporting the fund-raising effort.
SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley thanked Constellation for its generosity and commitment to the Fall Classic and the Presidential Scholars program. “We are grateful to Constellation and all our loyal sponsors, whose support will help make an Oswego State education possible for some of the state’s best and brightest students,” Stanley said.
Jim Spina, vice president at Constellation Energy’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, said, “Constellation Energy recognizes that education is the foundation of both personal and economic growth. We are proud to support the Presidential Scholarship Program at Oswego State. Education results in many long-term community benefits—from the development of resourceful leaders to informed voters and knowledgeable consumers. Constellation Energy and all of the employees at Nine Mile Point continue to be committed to our valuable community partners.”
Since 1996, all proceeds from the Fall Classic have helped to fund the Presidential Scholars program, an initiative designed to attract academically accomplished students to SUNY Oswego. Oswego’s Presidential Scholars rank in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.
Recipients are selected by the Office of Admissions based on their overall high-school academic achievement. Scholarships awarded in the 2003-04 year consisted of 150 Presidential Scholarships of $4,400 per year for four years to students with average SAT scores of 1230 and average high school GPAs of 93 percent, and 65 Deans Scholarships of $1,250 per year for four years to students who have average SAT scores of 1135 and who average 92 percent high school GPAs.
Since the fall semester of 1997, the Fall Classic has provided over $1 million in scholarship money for more than 1,000 Presidential Scholarships.
The Fall Classic has generated gross receipts of over $2.6 million since 1990 through the support of sponsors, who choose from eight levels of support. Presidential Sponsors are the highest level of sponsorship.
