Downtown exhibition notes 'There's Something About Oswego'

Visitors to the Oswego State Downtown gallery space may notice “There’s Something About Oswego ...” while viewing the latest student exhibition.

Amy Bartell of Oswego’s art faculty asked students and teaching assistants in her “Introduction to Computer Graphics Imagery” course “to investigate the angles and history, the architecture and sunlight, the color and the culture of Oswego” during the intensive three-week summer class.

“When curious, talented and committed students have the opportunity to work with engaging and inspiring imagery, great things are possible,” Bartell said. “This collection of work highlights their focus and commitment in learning new design programs while generating creative and dynamic digital artwork.”

After researching and photographing, participants used their newfound digital skills to develop the full-color images on display. The images were based on some aspect of Oswego that “inspired, confused, charmed, motivated or entertained them,” Bartell said.

“It is through their interpretation that we appreciate the rich, textured, visual, historical and cultural context that Oswego provides,” Bartell added.

Participating artists, a mix of undergraduates and graduate students, include Eva Calzada, Claire Ellsworth, Colleen Fischer, Sara Gotlib, Courtney Grosvenor, Alesha Hall, Stacy Huntington, Michael Johnson, Alyssa Mitchell, Sheen Moshaty, Alison Richmond, Stacy Schaefer, Allison Williams and Megan Williams.

The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will run through Aug. 1.

In addition to the gallery space, Oswego State Downtown also offers SUNY Oswego apparel, memorabilia and event information. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
