Middle schoolers experience college life for a day
Oswego Middle School students taking part in SUNY Oswego’s Mentor-Scholar Program visited the college March 14 for a tour and an exclusive performance by the college’s Del Sarte Dance Club.
More than 80 middle school students engage in the academic and social partnership with SUNY Oswego volunteers. The campus visits help to demystify college for the middle schoolers, allowing them to see themselves pursuing higher education, said Scott Ball, assistant coordinator of the Mentor-Scholar Program.
The members of SUNY Oswego’s Del Sarte student organization met with the visiting group and discussed their backgrounds and interests that led them to joining Del Sarte. At the conclusion of the club’s performance, the middle school students learned dance steps and joined in a large group performance.
The Mentor-Scholar participants will return to campus May 3 for a ceremony closing the academic year.
