Flamenco Vivo

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana to perform Nov. 5

Flamenco dance.SUNY Oswego will present a performance by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.

Founded in 1983, Flamenco Vivo is now one of the leading flamenco dance companies in the United States. In her quest to bring flamenco to mainstream audiences, Director Carlota Santana aims to create powerful performances, extensive community outreach and innovative arts education programs.

The Washington Post has described the troupe’s repertoire as “hot stuff” performed with “impeccable cool.” A New York Times review said its “dancers combined meticulous attention to choreographic details with outpourings of passionate feelings.”

The mission of the dance company is to promote flamenco as a form of art and as part of the Hispanic heritage, perform quality dances in theatrical venues, connect people of different cultures through arts programs and influence up-and-coming Spanish dance artists. Those interested in hearing more about the troupe’s background, training or inspiration may attend a post-performance conversation with Santana in Tyler Hall.

The Oswego appearance is sponsored by the college’s Artswego Performing Arts Series, supported by New York State DanceForce, with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Dance Program.

While in the community, the troupe will provide an extensive residency program. For more information about workshops and outreach programs, visit http://www.oswego.edu/arts, call 312-4581 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Tickets to the evening performance cost $20 ($15 for seniors and children, $7 for SUNY Oswego students) and are available through Tyler box office at 312-2141 or http://tickets.oswego.edu. Parking is free in campus lots on evenings and weekends.
