Notary public training offered evenings in Phoenix
For years people interested in taking the state’s notary public examination have prepared by first taking SUNY Oswego’s notary public workshop training.
For the first time in years, the college is offering the notary public workshop as an evening program, from 6 to 9:30, Thursday, May 16, at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center in the Oswego County Industrial Park off State Route 481 in Phoenix.
“We’ve had a number of people request an evening workshop because of their work schedules,” said Tammy Anderson, SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center contract manager. “We’re in the business of delivering professional development and training programs that are not only relevant but that are also convenient for the people who want or need to take them.”
The workshop, taught by Alfred E. Piombino, prepares individuals for the New York state test and provides a comprehensive view of the notary public office.
“The workshops are designed to be an interactive learning environment,” Anderson said. “Al Piombino is a highly rated instructor who shares his expertise while using a wonderful sense of humor and a dynamic speaking style to help students prepare for the notary exam.”
Concepts and procedures are clarified in plain English, not in confusing legal terminology, she said. Examples are provided to illustrate situations that a notary is likely to encounter.
Notary public training workshops are recommended for individual employees working in all businesses and industries. Employers benefit by having fully trained staff members who can notarize documents in-house, keeping company and trade secrets safe, Anderson said.
“Notary Public Handbook: A Guide for New York,” a reference guide/textbook by Piombino, is included in the $99 program fee.
Three other notary training workshops are scheduled through the end of the year at either the Phoenix Center or the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in downtown Syracuse. To register, or for more information, visit www.oswego.edu/notary or call (315) 934-4900.
