Fourth-grade teacher Kelly Moxley of Kingsford Elementary School in the Oswego City School District experiments at a new SUNY Oswego institute for elementary school teachers, giving a glimpse of the fascination Moxley’s students will experience after they assemble electric motors using little more than a coil of wire, a magnet and a D battery.

The college, with assistance from NYSERDA and other government agencies, offers the first Energy and Sustainability Institute for Elementary Teachers—18 from Oswego city schools—Aug. 9 to 13 at Rice Creek Field Station.
