June program introduces high school students to accounting
The Syracuse division of Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession will offer its program from June 23 to 26 at SUNY Oswego. High school student applications to participate in this all-expense-paid program are now being accepted.
Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession is a residential summer program sponsored by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants/Foundation for Accounting Education.
The program gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to experience on-campus living while learning about careers available in accounting and business. The primary focus of the program is to promote the accounting profession to high school students, with a secondary focus to target groups historically underrepresented in accounting.
During the program’s three days, students will learn basic accounting concepts and take courses to enhance their professional development skills, with classes such as public speaking, resume writing, mock interviews and networking.
Students will go on a field trip to visit local private businesses and accounting firms and have the opportunity to meet with area business professionals. SUNY Oswego’s accounting program places graduates in national and regional firms across the Northeast including New York City, Boston and Central New York.
There is no cost to students participating in the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession program. Transportation, housing and meals are all provided by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants/Foundation for Accounting Education.
