WRVO forum to address veterans' jobs, health, housing, more

WRVO will present a community forum March 31 at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center titled “How Do Recent Veterans Reintegrate into Central New York?”

The forum, which will be recorded for rebroadcast, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, in the Metro Center at the Atrium on Clinton Square in downtown Syracuse.

Participants for this installment in a series of community forums for the National Public Radio affiliate will include Mark Nowakowski, social worker for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Healthcare for Homeless Veterans program; Steve Darman, director of Social Science Associates and chair of the Mohawk Valley Homeless Veterans Task Force; and Cindy Picunas, a veterans programs coordinator for the state Department of Labor. WRVO’s “Morning Edition” host, Jason Smith, will moderate.

The event is free and open to the public. Audience members can participate in the discussion and ask questions.

Among the questions the forum intends to address are: How do veterans find out about their education benefits? Where can they go for job placement assistance? Are there housing opportunities available? Are mental health counseling services available?
