A panel discussion featuring national figures in athletics and sports journalism pondering the impact of media on sports at SUNY Oswego’s fall Louis A. Borrelli Jr. Media Summit will air twice on the Dish Network on Monday, Jan. 22.
“The Impact of Media on U.S. Sports: Who’s Winning? Media, Teams, Athletes or Fans?” took place at SUNY Oswego on Oct. 20. Dish will reshow the program at 9 p.m. Eastern time and again at 9 p.m. Pacific time Jan. 22. Dish Network subscribers in the United States can receive the program on channel 9411, the University House channel. The program was first re-broadcast on Time Warner Cable Sports 26 in the fall.
Panelists are George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports and co-chairman of Disney Media Networks; Dr. Myles Brand, president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association; Linda Bruno, commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference; Bud Poliquin, sports columnist for the Syracuse Post-Standard and co-host of WHEN’s sports talk radio show; and Stuart Robinson, athletic director at SUNY New Paltz.
Linda Cohn, a 1981 graduate of SUNY Oswego and an anchor on ESPN’s SportsCenter, moderates the discussion.
“The Impact of Media on U.S. Sports” was SUNY Oswego’s second annual Borrelli Media Summit. Borrelli, chief executive officer of NEP Broadcasting and a 1977 graduate of Oswego, committed $150,000 over five years to fund a media summit each fall to bring students into close contact with leaders in the media industry. On the day of the summit, the guests teach classes and visit with students and faculty before the summit meeting.
