Center meets student 'kneads' during finals week

SUNY Oswego’s Counseling Services Center is looking to provide students a little TLC—from stress-management sessions to brief massages—to help with finals week studies.

In cooperation with Penfield Library, the center will provide counseling staff in the library’s Instruction Room 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 and 12, for consultations regarding stress management and study techniques.

Massage therapists and a Reiki practitioner will provide brief massage and Reiki sessions to calm students from the stress of finals week, said event organizer Robin McAleese of the Counseling Services Center.

“Massage has been shown to improve concentration and alertness, while simultaneously reducing stress, and it’s a great way to support students during a stressful time of the year,” McAleese said. “We also want to provide information about the importance of self-care and stress management in order to improve test performance.”

Massages will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
