She is the daughter of Mark and Lynne Kimpland.
Kimpland was a standout player on the Laker women’s basketball team, serving as captain the last two years. She is also a founding member of the campus Student-Athlete Advisory Council, a group focused on providing a student voice on athletic matters.
Kimpland organized an educational program on drinking and driving, attended by over 300 students. She was selected to attend the National Collegiate Athletic Association National Leadership Conference, an extremely competitive and prestigious gathering.
Alumni Director Betsy Oberst and Associate Alumni Director Michelle Tackett-Spinner presented Kimpland with the award.
“Lacey’s nomination impressed the selection committee not only for her leadership within the athletic department, but for her commitment and involvement on campus outside of Laker Hall,” Tackett-Spinner said.
“In addition to the highly demanding schedule of a student-athlete, Lacey has been very involved in a myriad of community-service activities, including hosting events for local children on campus and being an active member of College Students Against Cancer.”
Kimpland was nominated by Lorrie Clemo, chair of the Intercollegiate Athletic Board and special assistant to the president at SUNY Oswego.
“Lacey is a stellar student, a talented athlete, a gifted leader and a marvelous ambassador of our institution,” Clemo said. “She exhibits the ethical behavior, intellectual ability and moral character to serve our institution and society well.”
Kimpland, an education major, will graduate cum laude in December.
