College to host 'Stars Over Oswego' viewing

SUNY Oswego’s Astronomy Club will host a “Stars Over Oswego” telescopic viewing event at the Romney Field Observatory from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29.

This free event will allow the public to view Jupiter and its Galilean moons, star clusters and colorful binary stars in real time through telescopes. A tour of the fall constellations will also be given. Telescopes will include a large 6-inch refractor, a portable 8-inch reflector and a 5.5-inch “goto” telescope.

Rain date is Thursday, Sept. 30, at the same time.

Those planning to attend should call 312-2790 after 5 p.m. on Sept. 29 or the rain date to see if the event is canceled due to clouds. No reservations are required. Attendees should dress warmly, as most of the activity will take place outside.

The observatory sits at the back of the Romney Field commuter parking lot off Route 104 on the SUNY Oswego campus.
