More than 150 students new to SUNY Oswego will participate in the National Day of Service and Remembrance during the 10th anniversary weekend of 9/11.
The Office of Service Learning and Community Service continues to solicit community organizations for projects the students can perform. The students will be available for two-hour blocks of time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11.
New students registered for “College Orientation and Success” will participate in the community service projects, said Alyssa Amyotte, the college’s coordinator of service learning and community service.
Amyotte said examples of confirmed service projects that weekend include serving food, running games, setting up and cleaning up at the Parents of Special Children picnic; cleaning up and organizing the Harborfest office; painting hydrants for the city of Oswego Fire Department; and helping the Civil Air Patrol prepare for an event on 9/11.
