SUNY Oswego’s On Screen/In Person film series will offer the inmates-victims documentary “Concrete, Steel & Paint” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Oswego Cinema, 138 W. 2nd St., followed by a question-and-answer session with co-director Cindy Burstein.

Philadelphia mural titled Holding Grandmother's QuiltIn the infamous Badlands of Philadelphia, the Mural Arts Program brings together prisoners and the victims of violence for the Healing Walls Project. Filmmakers witness heated debates on justice and the possibility of forgiveness.

Painting their stories on parachute cloth, participants gradually overcome hatred and mistrust, their artistry focusing on remorse and healing. The completed artwork has since been installed on buildings throughout the city. Inmates have continued their efforts and have provided Philadelphia with more than a thousand murals.

The screening of the film, co-directed and co-produced by Burstein and Tony Heriza, is the fourth installment in the On Screen/In Person series, an initiative of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program. The series is presented by SUNY Oswego’s cinema and screen studies program with support from Artswego, the college’s Oswego Film Club and the community’s Oswego Film Group.

Tickets priced at $7 ($5 for seniors ages 62 and over and SUNY Oswego faculty and staff; $3.50 for SUNY Oswego students) may be purchased the night of the show at the Oswego Cinema or in advance from any campus box office, online at tickets.oswego.edu or by calling 312-2141.
