Kevin Snyder, a past contestant on CBS’ hit game show “The Price Is Right,” will discuss how his appearance on the show became a lesson in passion and persistence, as part of SUNY Oswego Quest activities on April 22.
His keynote appearance, at 1 p.m. in the Campus Center auditorium, is one of 275 talks, posters, panels and other activities celebrating scholarly and creative activities.
Snyder, who has worked in student affairs in various higher education institutions, aims to show students how to focus on their goals and ultimately achieve them.
“Kevin Snyder offers a entertaining, yet inspirational, program that will help students achieve their goals, find passion in their lives, and recognize how challenges are only steppingstones to future success,” said Schantavia Ivery, lectures chair for Oswego’s Student Association Program Board.
“In the past two years, we’ve had two speakers who presented general-interest topics,” said Quest coordinator Jack Gelfand, SUNY Oswego’s director of research administration and development. While those generated good attendance, the crowd was mostly faculty and staff, so organizers approached SAPB to partner on a speaker that would offer greater interest to students, he said.
After surveying students in residence halls and in the Campus Center, SAPB found students most interested in a speaker that was both motivational and funny. SAPB scheduled Snyder with the hopes of engaging the whole campus community, especially students.
Snyder studied marine biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He earned his master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and is currently pursuing a doctorate from the University of Central Florida.
Just as in his talks, Snyder said his focus in his everyday work is helping students identify their passions, take action and lead fulfilled lives.
Like all Quest presentations, Snyder’s talk is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.oswego.edu/quest.
