Courses, certificate available through Phoenix Center for business professionals

SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning will offer a series of American Management Association Professional Courses and University Certificate Program starting Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center.

The AMA courses are designed to provide new business owners with essential business skills to help them succeed and the opportunity to enhance their professional abilities on many levels, said Tammy Anderson, contract manager for professional development for the Division of Extended Learning.

“Entrepreneurs will find these courses to be an invaluable resource for honing their professional skills, while new and current business owners can not only improve their business knowledge, but enhance that of their staffs by having them attend classes as well,” Anderson said.

Through a flexible, learner-centered curriculum, each AMA course integrates core knowledge with practical applications. Enrollment is available for those interested in attending courses on a certificate or non-certificate basis. The program is flexible, allowing an organization to have AMA courses customized to meet their specific needs. The customized course materials will be delivered to meet the organization’s audience, schedule and site preference.

The AMA Certificate and Professional Course series will begin with “Fundamentals of Human Resources” from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 28 to March 27, at SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center, 70 County Route 59, just off Exit 14 of Route 481. It will offer a comprehensive and up-to-date guide to human resource management, from understanding basic human resources functions to using the Web for recruiting and selecting the latest information system.

Other courses in the series, all 6 to 9 p.m. at the SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center, will include:

* “Leadership Skills for Managers,” Thursdays, March 1 to 29.

* “Administrative Professionals: Skills for Success,” Mondays, April 2 to 30.

* “Managing and Achieving Organizational Goals,” Thursdays, April 5 to May 3.
