Campus community to spell out Oswego's strength

imageMembers of the campus community are needed to put the “O” in Oswego at 3:30 p.m. Friday. And the “S.” Plus a “W.” As well as an “E,” a “G” and another “O.”

Students, faculty and staff members will spell out the word “Oswego” on the field next to Lee Hall for a family portrait that will become a central image of the Campaign for Oswego. The campaign launches with a day full of activities, and visits from distinguished alumni including NBC’s Al Roker, ESPN’s Steve Levy and Chile’s UN ambassador Heraldo Munoz on Friday, Sept. 30.

The Campaign for Oswego—the college’s first-ever comprehensive fund-raising effort—seeks to raise $17 million to support scholarships, endowments, research and scholarly activities, campus beautification and enhancements, academic departments and more.

WSTM-3’s Chris Brandolino, an Oswego alumnus, will MC the Family Portrait. The first 1,000 participants will receive a free T-shirt. Everyone will receive refreshments after the picture and chances to win a number of door prizes. Items participants can win include two iPod Shuffles, a USB jump drive, a digital camera, a gym membership and gift certificates to local eateries as well as the College Store.

“The family portrait will communicate that the strength of Oswego lies in its people,” said Kevin Mahaney, vice president of development and alumni relations. The image will be used in print and electronic campaigns, and perhaps posters and other forms. Donors and prospective donors unable to make the campaign launch event will receive the picture as well, he said.
