The Oswego State Jazz Ensemble and small groups will present a 50th anniversary tribute to some of the great jazz albums of 1959 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre.
According to the ensemble’s director, Eric Schmitz of Oswego’s music faculty, 1959 was “a watershed year in jazz, witnessing the recording of seminal albums such as Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue,’ John Coltrane’s ‘Giant Steps,’ Dave Brubeck’s ‘Time Out’ and numerous other classics.”
The evening also will mark the concert debut of the college’s new Latin Jazz Ensemble.
Cost is a $5 suggested donation supporting the SUNY Oswego Music Department Excellence Fund, with SUNY Oswego students admitted free. For information, call 312-2130.
