Concert Band to perform May 4

The SUNY Oswego Concert Band under the direction of Angela Space will perform an evening of wind and percussion repertoire at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Tyler Hall’s Waterman Theatre on campus.

Admission will be free, and the public is invited to attend.

The program will include pieces ranging from marches to folk songs from around the world. One such American folk spiritual is “Amazing Grace.” “The arrangement for band was written by Frank Ticheli and includes a beautiful saxophone solo,” Space said.

The band also will perform “Folk Song Suite” by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. It has three movements based on British folk songs. Other compositions in the concert will include “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” and “Commando March” by Samuel Barber.

The performance also will include a composition of a well-known video-game theme song that features the brass section. This piece was written by Alex Deerkop, a trombonist and music major in the Concert Band.
