Lakers host top-flight field in new tournament

Ryan EllisOswego will be one of four perennial powers participating in the inaugural Pathfinder Bank Hockey Classic Dec. 29 in 30 in the Campus Center Ice Arena.

Visiting teams Elmira, New England College and St. Thomas, as well as Oswego, have all made it to the NCAA Frozen Four in men’s hockey in the past few years.

With a record of 11-0-3, the host Lakers have rolled up the longest undefeated streak to begin a season in the program’s rich history and are currently ranked #2 in the country in the USCHO Division III poll. Oswego will play New England College at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 in the tournament’s first round. That game will follow a 4 p.m. contest between Elmira and St. Thomas, who hail from St. Paul, Minn.

The winners of those games will meet for the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30. The title tilt follows the consolation game at 4 p.m.

Admission prices for each doubleheader are $6 for adults, $5 for SUNY Oswego faculty and staff and $3 for students of schools or colleges other than SUNY Oswego. SUNY Oswego students are admitted free.
