Music, melodies and merriment are in the forecast when the a cappella group Blue Jupiter presents a holiday-themed show, “Scattered Flurries,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Hewitt Union ballroom.
“Scattered Flurries” will feature traditional carols and uptempo arrangements of contemporary holiday pieces. The show also will present humor and dramatic moments through songs and sketches.
Blue Jupiter has continued to build a following through performances at Oswego, including headlining a concert for VH1’s Save the Music Fund last year, as well as nationwide through its touring schedule and three albums. The group’s manager is Diana Preisler, who majored in music at SUNY Oswego and boasts many TV, movie and stage vocal credits.
Blue Jupiter won the Oreo “Milk’s Favorite Jingle Contest” in 2005, and the resulting funky-pop take on the classic Oreo jingle has appeared on radio stations around the country.
The quartet began recording its fourth album, “Realigned,” this summer. Members also took part in the Braking the Cycle AIDS Bike-a-thon, raising more than $40,000 to fight the disease by completing a three-day, 275-mile ride from Gettysburg to New York City.
While their stage shows feature comedic bits, Blue Jupiter’s members take seriously their roles as music educators and opportunities—through residencies and performances—to talk to students and youth about the importance of music and creativity.
In addition to the stop at SUNY Oswego, Blue Jupiter’s “Scattered Flurries” tour is scheduled to take them as far as China.
Tickets for Blue Jupiter’s performance at SUNY Oswego cost $14 ($10 for seniors and students, $7 SUNY Oswego students).
