The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble, SUNY Oswego’s Festival Chorus and the Oswego High School Chamber Singers will join forces for an annual holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 103 W. Seventh St. in Oswego.
The concert will include John Rutter’s “Gloria” with the Oswego Festival Chorus, under Julie Pretzat, and members of the SU Brass Ensemble. The Oswego High School Chamber Singers, directed by Veronica Shaver, will sing several holiday selections.
The brass ensemble is composed of musicians from Syracuse University and the surrounding region, including Oswego, and directed by James T. Spencer.
The ensemble will perform “The Holly and the Ivy,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Christmas Festival,” Georges Bizet’s “Farandole,” a jazzy tuba solo of “Frosty the Snowman,” “For Unto Us a Child Is Born” from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah,” and sing-along Christmas carols. The concert will also feature popular classical selections “Sonata XX” by Giovanni Gabrieli and “Espana” by Emmanuel Chabrier.
