The project is part of an annual statewide day of community service by SAAC chapters at all 11 SUNY Athletic Conference colleges. SAAC’s mission is to generate a student-athlete voice and to enhance school spirit within athletics.
“It was so well-received last year that we anticipate a much bigger turnout this year,” said Diane Dillon, SUNY Oswego’s SAAC adviser and women’s hockey coach. “The student-athletes really enjoyed themselves and look forward to getting out in the community to help.”
Student-athletes from all 24 SUNY Oswego intercollegiate teams will receive a list of yards that need raking and fan out to provide this service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 5. The event will take place regardless of weather.
Senior citizens can register to have their yards raked by contacting Dillon at 312-2880 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline to register is Nov. 1.
Lowe’s Home Improvement Centers helps sponsor this effort throughout SUNYAC by giving each campus a $100 gift card. SUNY Oswego’s SAAC chapter seeks additional donations of rakes, tarps, leaf bags and gloves to help with this sizable volunteer effort.
