Among the grants and contracts for special projects are:
- A $1,320,000 contract with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to train OTDA staff on a variety of topics and manage consulting services.
- A $285,000 grant from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in support of the Oswego Children’s Study, a longitudinal study examining the cognitive and behavioral effects of prenatal PCB exposure in children.
- A $239,000 grant from the New York State Education Department in support of Project SMART, a professional development program for teachers in rural and urban school districts. The funds come from the state Teacher Quality Enhancement Program that is supported by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
- A $231,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to create a proteomics and mass spectrometry facility on campus.
- A $174,325 grant from the New York State Education Department in support of the Liberty Partnership, a college partnership with three school districts to provide tutoring, counseling and career-oriented activities to high school students at high risk of dropping out of school.
- A $169,000 grant from the National Eye Institute, one of the National Institutes of Health, to study spontaneous eye blinking in infants.
- A $92,000 grant from the U.S. Defense Department’s Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences to use simulations to study the strategic role of anger and fear.
The figures are for funds received in the past year only. Several of these are multi-year projects that are scheduled to receive additional funding in 2005-06 and beyond.
The college’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in Penfield Library develops, coordinates and administers SUNY Oswego’s sponsored research and programs. The college’s proposals, grants and contracts are managed through the office, which is the representative of the Research Foundation of SUNY on campus.
