The SUNY Oswego Phoenix Center, long known for computer training, will begin a series of application training sessions with two offerings Tuesday, Aug. 7.
The application training sessions will focus on how to take advantage of free online programs that help people increase efficiency at work. Additional dates are to be determined
The Aug. 7 sessions, which cost $30 each, both deal with Google applications. The first deals with Google Gmail and Calendar and the second with Google Docs (word processing, spreadsheets and the Google Drive cloud storage service).
In the first session, from 9 a.m. to noon, participants will learn how to use Google’s free email program, Gmail, as well as the Google Calendar application.
The first part of the email and calendar training session will introduce the features of Gmail and show participants how to create, organize, sort and search as well as create and manage contact lists. The second half will introduce participants to Google Calendar options and show participants how to create events, electronically invite others to meetings, organize with labels and filters, and share calendars with others.
In the second session, from 1 to 4 p.m., participants will learn how to use the word processing and spreadsheet features Google offers. The training session will cover how to begin a document to use as a collaborative work in progress, and store or share documents for reference. Participants will learn various word processing and spreadsheet operations. In addition, the instructor will introduce participants to the new Google Drive, a cloud storage service.
