Hockey team to host national quarterfinal

Matt Whitehead shootsThe Oswego men’s ice hockey team will host Norwich at 7 p.m. Saturday in an NCAA Division III semifinal game. It’s only the second NCAA Tournament game the program has hosted in its rich history.

The Laker men rolled up a 20-3-3 record on the way to the SUNY Athletic Conference regular-season championship this year. That mark was good enough for an at-large NCAA bid and the privilege of hosting an Elite Eight game in the Campus Center ice arena. Their opponent, Norwich, defeated the Lakers for the 2003 national championship game.

The winner of the Oswego-Norwich game will advance to the national semifinals at the Frozen Four in Wisconsin the following weekend.

As of Saturday, some student tickets remain. Available for $3 with student identification, these tickets will be sold at the Campus Center box office when it opens at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Currently, the only public tickets available are standing room only for $6.
