Economy Explored

Panel discussion explores recent economic events

A panel of economic and business experts will discuss “The Economic Crisis: Are We Seeing the Light or Are We Stuck in the Tunnel?” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in Room 105 of Lanigan Hall at SUNY Oswego.

The panel will include Ranjit Dighe and Lawrence Spizman of SUNY Oswego’s economics department; John MacDonald of the risk management program at Oswego’s School of Business; and Thomas Schneider, president and CEO of Pathfinder Bank and an adjunct professor of business at the college. Bruce Frassinelli of Oswego’s journalism program and a retired publisher of The Palladium-Times, will moderate.

Admission is free and the public is invited to the discussion, which is sponsored by the college’s Civic Engagement Coalition.

The panel will address such topics as whether the worst of the crisis is over, if the same problems can be prevented from recurring, whether the issues are as simple as regulation and deregulation, the economic bailout’s implications for Wall Street and Main Street, how it all relates to the election season, and how these events could impact the local economy.

For more information, contact Nola Heidlebaugh, SUNY Oswego’s civic engagement coordinator, at 312-3677 or .
