Governor names Scriber to Oswego College Council

Gov. David Paterson has appointed William Scriber of Parish to the SUNY Oswego College Council for a seven-year term. The council will meet next on Dec. 3.

William Scriber.The College Council has 10 members, including nine prominent citizens appointed by the governor plus the elected president of the college’s Student Association. It serves as an important governing board for the institution.

Scriber is employed by the Port of Oswego Authority as the manager of administrative services and port security. He is a decorated military veteran who served in Desert Storm/Desert Shield with the U.S. Army Special Operations Airborne Command. 



An alumnus of SUNY Oswego, Scriber received his bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in economics in 1980. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg, N.C.; the School of Movement and Logistic Planning at the U.S. Army Reserve Readiness Training Center at Fort McCoy, Wisc.; and U.S. Army Noncommissioned Officers School at Fort Indian Town Gap, Pa.

“I’m very honored that the governor extended me this appointment,” Scriber said. “I’m a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, and I believe I received an excellent education. I really enjoyed my time at the college. I’d like to help make the opportunities for students as worthwhile as when I was a student.”


Active in community

Scriber is active in educational and community activities in Oswego County. He serves as president of the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central Education Foundation, chairman of the Parish Planning Board, a board member for the Oswego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services, and board member and secretary for the Oswego County Tobacco Asset Securitization Corp.


His previous community involvements include serving on the Oswego County Airport Advisory Board, APW Central School District School Board and Oswego County Strategic Planning Committee. He is past post commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7325 in Constantia. At the state level, he is past president of the New York State Elections Commissioners’ Association.

The recipient of many medals and awards, Scriber has been honored by the New York State Veterans of Foreign Wars, New York State School Boards Association, state Elections Commissioners’ Association and U.S. Army.

Scriber is a life resident of Parish and a graduate of APW High School. He and his wife, Beverley, have one child, Christina, who attends APW High School.
