SUNY Oswego Recorder Consort to perform March 28

Recorder ConsortThe SUNY Oswego Recorder Consort will present “A Concert of Suites” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Church of the Resurrection, 120 W. Fifth St. in Oswego.

A variety of work from the Baroque and modern eras, two prolific times for the recorder, will be featured. Selections will include “In Sherwood Forest” by Raymond Harvey, “First Set of Pieces from the Faerie Queen” by Henry Purcell, “Suite No. 1 for Recorder Quartet” by Johann Joseph Fux, “Porter Avenue Suite” by Richard Eastman, “Suite in F Major” by Georg Philipp Telemann and “Cambridge Suite” by Petrina Lodge.

The Recorder Consort’s members include John Brunson on soprano recorder, director Marilynn Smiley on alto recorder, Jane Wright on tenor recorder and Burton Phillips on bass recorder.

This concert, which is free and open to the public, is presented in March to celebrate the American Recorder Society’s “Play the Recorder Month.”
