Stress management, massages offered for students on finals week

The Counseling Services Center, in cooperation with Penfield Library, hopes to give students a little TLC to help them focus on their finals week studies—in the form of brief massages and stress-release consultations.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14, counseling staff will be available in Instruction Room 2 of the library to provide consultations regarding stress management and study techniques. During those hours, massage therapists and a Reiki (spiritual energy healing) practitioner will provide brief massage and Reiki sessions to calm students from the stress of finals week.

“Massage has been shown to improve concentration and alertness, while simultaneously reducing stress, and it’s a great way to support students during a stressful time of the year,” said Counseling Services Center staff counselor and event organizer Robin McAleese. “We also want to provide information about the importance of self-care and stress management in order to improve test performance.”

Massages will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
