The award-winning Aviv Quartet of Israel, global performers at such esteemed venues as Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, will open the Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Sheldon Hall ballroom.
The appearance, organized by SUNY Oswego’s Artswego and Trevor Jorgensen of the music department, will begin with a preconcert talk at 7 p.m., followed at 7:30 by the Aviv Quartet performance, featuring selections from Haydn, Shostakovich and Mozart.
The repertoire will include Haydn’s “String Quartet Op. 76 No.1,” Shostakovich’s “String Quartet No. 9 in E Flat Major, Op. 117” and Mozart’s “Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in A Major K. 581,” featuring clarinetist Jorgensen, a woodwinds expert and assistant professor of music.
The accomplished string quartet has won the Schubert Competition, Bordeaux String Quartet Competition and the Grand Prix at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. After a recent performance for the Cleveland Chamber Music Society, The Plain Dealer’s reviewer said Aviv Quartet “blends potent interpretive skills with technical precision … and remarkable ability to characterize music from the inside out.”
All seating will be general admission. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $12 for seniors, non-SUNY Oswego students and for the college’s faculty and staff; and $6 for SUNY Oswego students. The tickets are available at all SUNY Oswego box offices, online at http://tickets.oswego.edu and by calling 312-2141. Tickets may be purchased at the door on a cash-only basis.
Parking in campus lots is free evenings and weekends.
Aviv Quartet also will give an informal talk at 12:40 p.m. Oct. 31 in Room 41 of Tyler Hall.
