Local artists sought for 'Art on the Wall' series

SUNY Oswego’s Tyler Art Gallery and Auxiliary Services invite regional artists to submit work for the 2010-11 “Art on the Wall” series of exhibitions at Oswego State Downtown.

Artist Joe Rial explains his work.The series encourages artists in a 30-mile radius of Oswego to submit two-dimensional artwork for exhibitions during the next school year. A three-person jury will select four to six exhibitors among the entrants, according to Michael Flanagan, assistant director of Tyler Art Gallery.

The exhibitors’ works will be featured one artist at a time, starting about Sept. 1, at Oswego State Downtown, an extension of Tyler Art Gallery and the College Store, 186 W. First St. The facility also showcases particularly interesting work of SUNY Oswego art classes, Flanagan said.

Entrants should mail a resume, script, artist’s statement and 10 to 15 digital copies of their work in jpg format, or 35mm slides, to Art on the Wall, c/o Michael Flanagan, Tyler Art Gallery, SUNY Oswego, 7060 State Route 104, Oswego 13126. The deadline is June 14.

In addition to the gallery space, Oswego State Downtown also offers SUNY Oswego apparel, memorabilia and event information. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
