Oswego publications win national, state honors

SUNY Oswego’s annual report and Oswego alumni magazine won Awards of Excellence in the 2009 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence competition recognizing work by professional communicators.

The college’s latest annual report, produced by the Office of Public Affairs and designed by Mosseau Graphic Design of DeWitt, was honored in the “Annual Report - Print” category, along with reports from such organizations as WGBH in Boston, Chelsea design firm Langton Cherubino Group and international insurance holding company The Navigators Group.

The 2008 annual report, “Tried and True,” was distributed in February 2009 to faculty and staff, donors, students’ families, members of various campus boards, emeriti faculty, and presidents and other officers of northeastern colleges and universities.

Oswego alumni magazine was honored in the “Magazines and Journals: Print Over 32 Pages” category for its winter 2009 issue. The cover featured President Deborah F. Stanley and a group of students on the cover. The double issue included a report on the success of Inspiring Horizons: The Campaign for Oswego and was a distinctive design that flipped over to accommodate two publications in one.

It is the fourth year in a row that the magazine —with a circulation of more than 74,000 alumni, faculty, staff, emeriti, parents and friends of Oswego—was recognized with an APEX award. The magazine is produced by the college’s Development and Alumni Relations Division with graphic design by Kiefer Creative of Liverpool. Other college and university magazines recognized included publications from Binghamton University, Columbia Law School and University of Arizona, among others.

SUNY honors

Oswego’s Development and Alumni Relations Division also earned top honors in two categories of the SUNY Council for University Advancement awards this year. The biannual Oswego Parents newsletter produced by the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations was Best of Category in “Newsletters: One- to Three-color.”

The invitation to join the President’s Circle gift club was best in the “Effective, Efficient and Elegant Publications: One- or Two-color Publications” category. The college’s Graduates Of the Last Decade program, or GOLD, earned a judges citation in “Alumni Programs.” SUNYCUAD issued another citation in “Fundraising Publications” for Oswego’s Annual Fund brochures.
