Dr. Bruce Altschuler, a professor of political science at SUNY Oswego, will give a talk about his latest book, “Acting Presidents: 100 Years of Plays About the Presidency,” at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park on Saturday, June 18, as part of the library’s annual Roosevelt Reading Festival.
“The talk will explain the overall theme of the book and use three plays about Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt to illustrate how the theatrical role of the heroic president has evolved over the years,” he said.
Altschuler will be one of 18 authors of recently published works that draw upon the Roosevelt Library archives speaking during the all-day event at the library’s Henry A. Wallace Center. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and culminate with a presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning Roosevelt scholar James MacGregor Burns and his former student, presidential historian and NBC News commentator Michael Beschloss.
Roosevelt Reading Festival activities are open to the public free of charge. Details of the event can be found at http://www.fdrlibrary.marist.edu/publicprograms/calendar.html.
